Oncology Liaison Nurse (CNM2)
The fundamental philosophy guiding this position will be to promote and preserve the Hospital mission, values (Respect, Justice, Compassion, Integrity, Innovation, Quality and Stewardship) and ethos by effective delivery of mission objectives in your capacity as an Oncology Liaison Nurse.
The Oncology Liaison Nurse will be responsible for the following:
Objectives:
Ø To provide for the psychological, emotional and informational needs of cancer patient and their families.
Ø To ensure that a high standard of patient care is maintained at all times.
Ø To work as part of the interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
1. Clinical Focus
The Oncology Liaison Nurse will:
a. Work closely with the Consultant Medical Oncologist and the oncology team in the provision and the co-ordination of care for in-patients, out-patients and patients requiring transfer to outside institutions for other treatment modalities.
b. Act as a link resource services in the community to ensure that the patient has access / knowledge of all available services in the hospital and community.
c. Help meet the psychological, emotional and informational needs of cancer patients at the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.
d. Establish relationships with GP's and other healthcare professionals in the primary and acute settings to ensure that the highest standards of patient care.
e. Foster good working relationships with all members of the clinical team, which are both professional and supportive.
f. Maintain accurate clinical records complying with legislation and best practice.
g. Promote best practice standards in patient care by demonstrating specialist knowledge and clinical expertise.
h. Be familiar with all hospital policies, procedures and guidelines
i. To work closely with interdisciplinary teams within the hospital, to improve processes and practices and to identify areas for quality improvement with regard to gaining JCI Accreditation.
j. Demonstrate leadership ability and good communication skills.
k. Liaise with research co-ordinator and to provide cover for the research co-ordinator's annual leave.
