The Structural Engineer will oversee all structural engineering aspects of MCT's current and future projects, assisting the Engineering Manager to deliver tidal energy projects from concept to completion.
Job Description:
• Develop an overall understanding of MCT's tidal generation technology and provide advice to the Engineering Manager in relation to all structural engineering matters.
• Have an understanding of relevant structural design methodologies, processes and standards.
• Manage the structural design process, including identifying work to be contracted out and managing this process effectively.
• Develop, test and evaluate theoretical designs.
• Discuss and solve complex problems with sub-contractors, suppliers and customers.
• Make sure that the structure is designed correctly for ease of manufacture, assembly, installation, maintenance and decommissioning.
• Use research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and computer-aided design.
• Consider the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.
Key Skills Required for the Senior Structural Engineer:
• Chartered engineer in a Civil / Structural discipline.
• Design and operational experience in marine engineering and/or sub-sea projects essential.
• Project management of design and construction projects, preferably in the marine, subsea or renewable energy sector.
• Working knowledge of operating safely within a marine environment.
• Good presentation skills and ability to drive meetings.
• Thorough understanding of the design principles of structural engineering.
• Thorough understanding of legislative requirements.
• Good range of IT skills and Structural Engineering software
• Experience of project management
