Packaging Engineer

This site has 2 High Speed Canning lines capable of packaging filled cans of powder at up to 330 parts per minute.
Comprising of: Depalletising , Filling, Seaming, Gassing, Sticker & Leaflet applicators , Labellers, Overcappers ,casepackers, printing equipment, palletiser and wrapping equipment. It includes two hi-speed Robotic cells and has many vision systems across both lines in our high care cleanroom filling rooms.

Job Description
Key responsibilities include:
- The successful candidate will drive packing improvements and lead projects to drive Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) within the Packing Department . He/she will manage packing automation projects
- To provide the necessary engineering support and services to the Packing Department and Plant in general to achieve organizational plant goals
- Ability to execute validation document protocols as required
- Responsible for selecting, assigning, organizing and directing the activities for fitters and electricians
- To attend to the day to day duties of maintenance and upkeep of the packing equipment and facilities
- To contribute to the organization and planning of the engineering department
- Strong EHS ethic to ensure safe operations and installation of equipment and machinery
- He/she will help establish with the Engineering Manager, departmental goals, schedules and timetables for projects and maintenance work within the packing area
- He/she must maintain the condition of facilities and equipment to ensure availability and reliability
- Control all cost and quality of maintenance by assigning work in accordance with availability of employees
- Deputize for other engineers in their absence
- Ensure all efforts are made to reduce product cost by improving efficiencies
- Administer, schedule and maintain plant preventative maintenance programme as required
- Support and drive Business Excellence initiative in the plant.
Skills/Experience Requirements Knowledge:
- Bachelors Degree/Diploma in Engineering or equivalent discipline
- 5 years relevant experience in packaging engineering environment
- The ability to organize, motivate and lead people
- Good troubleshooting skills
- Sound mechanical and electrical skills and a strong appreciation for automation systems, PLC's, robotics and vision systems
- Experience in canning / seaming is desirable but not essential
- Good computer skills and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task and simultaneously manage numerous high value packing projects effectively.
